WhatsApp official API or QR code: which to use in your business

Published on October 04, 2026

There are two ways to connect automated service to WhatsApp.

The standard one, which is the one we use, is Meta’s official API, with the number verified under your business name.

The other connects by QR code, much like WhatsApp Web, and puts your number at risk of being blocked.

Why the official API is the standard

  • Your number shows your business name, not a linked device.
  • Lower risk of being blocked, because you use it the way Meta intends.
  • It is the official way for several people to answer the same number, with a shared history.
  • It requires business verification, which takes a few days.

The upside of QR code

  • It starts faster, with no verification.
  • It costs less at first, because you skip the API setup.
  • It is fine for testing and for very small operations.

The downside of QR code

  • Your number can get blocked, and losing your business number is a direct loss.
  • It only works while the phone stays connected.
  • Meta’s rules change, and unofficial setups get no warning.

What nobody can promise

Neither option is risk-free.

The number belongs to your business, and so does the responsibility for it.

What we do is pick the lower-risk path and warn you before, not after.

Which one to pick

If this is your real customer service, with bookings and paying customers, use the official API and get verified at the start.

If it is a test, or a small, temporary operation, QR code will do.

Just know the risk you are taking.

What we pick

Our standard connection is the official API, and business verification happens at the start, before any customer is waiting for a reply.

If you already run your number through QR code, we assess the risk before migrating, and tell you when it is not worth changing.
