Online booking for a salon: free, paid or WhatsApp assistant
Published on October 04, 2026 · Updated on October 11, 2026
Salons have a problem of their own: whoever is working has their hands full and can’t stop a haircut to answer a message.
Online booking solves part of that, and the kind you pick decides how much of the work stays with you.
Free booking app
A spreadsheet or a free app where customers book themselves.
It helps you stay organized, but it doesn’t notify anyone.
The salon still has to check the calendar, confirm by message and chase no-shows.
Paid salon software
A system with a monthly plan, commission tracking, stock and history.
It covers all of the management side.
But customers have to install an app or visit a website to book, and many won’t.
They’d rather send a WhatsApp message, since that is where they already are.
WhatsApp assistant
The customer messages the salon’s number, and the assistant shows open slots, books and leaves the reminders 72 hours, 24 hours and 2 hours before configured.
Nobody has to stop working to answer, and a cancelled slot opens up again.
The 72-hour reminder usually goes out after the WhatsApp 24-hour window has closed.
So it is sent as a utility template, which Meta charges per message and which does not count toward the 1,000 free service messages of the month (Meta’s charging rules).
What to really compare
- Who answers the customer who writes at 10 p.m.
- How much time your team spends each day answering the same question.
- How many chairs sit empty from no-shows each month.
- What the plan costs, plus the time of whoever runs it.
The usual path
Many salons start with free booking, feel the squeeze on confirmations and no-shows, and then switch on the WhatsApp assistant.
You don’t need to replace your management software.
The assistant books, and management stays where it is.
If your system has an integration, we check what can be connected.
What goes into the bill
There is no setup fee, and the monthly fee is between $500 and $1,050.
On the annual plan, 12 months paid upfront, the monthly fee gets a 20% discount ($400, $640 or $840 per month).
The Meta cost, about $0.0034 per service or utility message in the United States, with the first 1,000 service messages per number free each month, is paid directly to Meta (Meta’s official rates).
